What a crazy walleye-fishing year this has been. I usually know by this time in the season what the walleye will go after and where they will be. But not this year!
One of my favorite things about Lake Erie walleye fishing is figuring out what they want, where they want it, and how slow or fast to troll to make them bite. Usually we throw out crankbaits and Colorado blades in the spring, worm harnesses during a bug hatch (which we have had for several weeks), and spoons after the bug hatch, then back to cranks in the fall.
Well I’ve had to throw my playbook right out the window this year. It changes from day to day. I will go the day before a charter and all the walleye bite on are worm harnesses. The next day I will have my jet divers and Dipsy-divers all rigged with harnesses only to find the walleye are biting on spoons or cranks. One day they’ll bite on the slow troll and the next day I’ll have to give them a bit more throttle.
Between the finicky walleye and the constant attack of white bass, sheepshead and white perch, it’s been a non-stop changing everything all the time kind of summer fishing in Lorain, Ohio. AND I LOVE IT! 🙂
Oh, by the way. The perch are finally starting to show up. 🙂
Let’s go fishing,
