The walleye we are catching today tell us a lot about how the walleye fishing on Lake Erie will look for years to come. The past week and a half, a bunch of small walleye have moved into the Vermilion and Lorain area. This is a welcome site. They range from the size of a cigar to just under the 15-inch minimum length for walleye in the state of Ohio. I have not seen this many small walleye since after the huge 2003 hatch. It is a great sign and really makes the future of Lake Erie walleye fishing look bright. When you catch on of these little guys, try to release them immediately with as little human touch as possible. We want these fish to live long and mate often!
