Most Lake Erie walleye fishing during the summer is done offshore. Trolling is by far the most popular method. Early in the season, when the lake is still warming, the fish are generally closer to the surface. During these times, we troll with planer boards or flatline with a diving lure popular. As the Lake Erie warms, the walleye hold deeper.
By late July and August, the fish can be found all the way at the bottom. If the fish are suspended at different depths, we change the dipsey settings and jet divers to target the fish. If the fish are on or near the bottom, lures with weights and downriggers work best. Depending on the time of year and the bug hatches we will use worm harnesses, spoons, and plastic crank baits.
The record hatches have populated the lake to record-levels of fish. We now offer your choice of drift fishing and casting, or trolling.
