What can I say about little Emma?!
Emma showed up ready for Lake Erie walleye fishing with a grin on her face with her mom Melanie and dad Vince. We had cancelled the trip the day before because of the weather and lake forecasts. When I called Vince, he just said, “Emma will be so disappointed.” I woke up the day of their planned walleye charter and checked the weather report and it had completely changed. I called them bright and early to see if they still wanted to go!
He called back and said it wad all good and they showed up at the boat and off we went. I set up right outside of the harbor in Lorain, where the Ark is docked. We put out the planer boards and put two rods in the water and before I could even get another rod in, the first two rods bent over. I thought, “darn, I hit bottom.” But it wasn’t bottom, it was two healthy walleyes! Before long we had the rest of the rods out and it was non-stop walleye the whole trip. We were lucky enough to see a beautiful sunset as we headed in with a cooler full of fish.
Little Emma was all in the whole trip. She would tell me to pay attention because we were dragging fish on some of our rods at the back of the boat. She would put night crawlers in the cup holders on the cooler and cover them with a towel and said this way we could get the rods back in the water sooner. She reeled in fish, netted fish, told me there was a fish on another rod while bringing in a fish. When her mom would ask her to eat a sandwich she said, “Later mom, I’m fishing.” She was all in and it was so much fun because the walleyes were cooperating and she ended the day with a hug for me and said, it was the best fishing trip of her life.
Her mom and dad reeled in their share as well and said this will be an annual event or twice a year event. Another great day on Lake Erie with new friends.
