As we do every year, my two sons and I went walleye fishing on Lake Erie for Father’s Day. There was a major bug hatch on the lake last week. First the midges followed by massive hatches of mayflies (I have visual proof, but my daughter wouldn’t let me post the nightmare-inducing photos so you get spoons). Best thing to do during a bug hatch is find a bunch of vegetarian walleyes that don’t eat bugs. Just kidding! There are still walleye to be had. I start out with reef runners on one side, spoons on the other, and walleye harnesses on the dipsy divers. Dipsy divers have been taking 75% of the walleye lately with the harnesses. Before the bug hatch my Lorain walleye charters limited out on spoons.
