Traditions and repeat customers are what I most love about being a charter captain! Allan Mihalik’s grandson Aidan Flynn comes for a visit from CA every summer. When Aidan was 8, they started coming together on Noah’s Ark for an annual Lake Erie perch-fishing day. This year when I got the call from Grandpa Allan that Aidan was coming in for a 2 week visit and wanted to get him out for the annual perch trip, I informed Allan that the perch bite was fair to bad. But we decided that since Aidan is 12, we should try him out on a walleye trip. Grandpa talked with Aidan and he was all in.
Aidan had a ball! Along with catching nine of their 12 walleye limit, Aidan managed to pull in a bunch of monster sheepshead (freshwater drum) with the help of his grandpa.
Four of them were 22” and up which qualifies as a Fish Ohio. It started getting into the mid 80’s so they called it a day at noon. Had they stayed out for the 2 hours remaining on their charter, they could have limited but both agreed they had plenty of walleye. While I cleaned their fish, Allan stopped on the way over to pick up his granddaughter and the kids enjoyed some time cooling off in our pool. Another great memory to last until next year!
