I took the weekend off to celebrate with family. The moon, the sunrises and sunsets often make me feel there is so much more than just us. I started out Friday taking my friend Anthony out for a walleye/steelhead trip. Weve been going fishing together for over 10 years. Anthony is one of God’special angels and is always thankful for any time I give him. He must say at least a hundred times when we go fishing “thank you Moses, you make my day.” His dad Gary, another special friend that owns Shoreway Beverage in Sheffield, dropped Anthony off at my house at 6am. We started the day stopping to see the sunrise at Oasis Marina in Lorain. Anthony still talks about the steelhead he caught with me over 10 years ago. My son Ryan had success with catching steelhead the day before. I decided to take Anthony out for the chance to catch another steelhead. We headed straight NE out of Lorain and 45 minutes later we were in 62 feet of water setting lines. It had to be one of the best days of fishing I have had in the 60 years I have been fishing on Lake Erie. Anthony was a huge part of the reason why. We set the 6 rods we were allowed and in about 15 minutes we started catching walleye. A half hour later a reel started screaming out line and the first steelhead of the day took 250 feet of it and jumped 5 feet in the air 3 times before Anthony was able to get him to the boat. In just over 2 hours we boated 20 walleye and kept our limit of 12. We also landed 5 of the 5 steelhead we had hooked before heading back in for the hour ride in 2 to 4 ft. waves to Lorain. It was a spectacular day and Anthony is going to talk about the trip every minute of every day to anyone who will listen. BETTER TO BE LUCKY AND BLESSED THAN GOOD.
