Leigh put together a Lake Erie walleye trip for her son & 4 Avon atheletes and close friends. It seemed challenging with having five 13 and 14 year olds on a boat with treble hooks and teens being teens. The boys showed up at 8am with enthusiasm. I went through the safety drill showing proper use of life jackets, safety equipment and explanation of what we would be doing. All eyes were on me paying attention to every word. I told them they would be setting lines and netting all the fish and they really got excited. We headed out to the fishing ground and as I was explaining what I was doing and what each piece of equipment was I still had their undivided attention. They started setting lines &, as usual this season, the fish started biting immediately. They took turns reeling in and netting in huge white bass and good size walleye. 3.5 hours into what could have been an 8 hour trip it was already in the mid 80s and we had a cooler full of fish. I could tell they were getting hot and tired so I asked if they were ready to turn around and go up through that line where we just caught all the fish or if they had enough. They all agreed it was a blast but a show of hands unanimously agreed it was time for a dip in the pool. We met back at my house to clean the fish and enjoy a swim. They called me Mr. MOSES and continually asked if I needed help. They were willing to do anything. They were respectful and really treated each other like they were best friends making sure everyone took turns. They thanked me over and over again. You could tell they were raised by caring parents and a great school system. After they left, I cooled off in the pool smiling the whole time as I thought about what a great day it was. Better to be lucky than good!
