Willie scheduled a walleye trip for himself and his two neighbors Greg and Joe, who all live in Avon Lake. The charter was scheduled for 7 AM. We all woke up to a storm coming over the lake heading to target Lorain at the same time. I called Willie and told them to go out to breakfast and we would start at 8. I then called first mate Kaya and told him to go back to sleep for another hour.
On our way to the boat Kaya told me he heard from his uncles that there was a special lure they were using the day before that was on fire. Even though the walleye were hitting on the several hundred baits I already had, his enthusiasim made me stop at Erie Outfitters and I asked him to pick out several of the lures he wanted to try. We all arrived at the boat, the skies had cleared and there was nothing behind that storm. We headed out to catch walleye right out in front of Avon Lake. You could see the launch ramp and Sheffield windmill. As we trolled east we could see the Avon Lake power plant and Avon Pointe. It was a beautiful morning and the walleye made it even better. We managed a 30 boat limit of walleye before we headed back in to clean the fish. Better to be lucky than good. And PS, Kaya’s lures were on fire and he outfished the captain with them.
