It has been over 15 years since a great Cleveland doctor Dave Baringer performed surgery on me. We started talking as Dave came in and eased my anxiety. He was warm and welcoming as a lasting friendship started to evolve. We had so much in common. He was an alumni from The Ohio State University. So, both of us being huge Buckeye fans started our friendship off. Next, I discovered he liked fishing as much as the Buckeyes and we grew even closer. Dave started to charter my boat 1 to 2 times a year until cancer brought him down. He would bring his son Jacob and wife Margie on a trip every year and usually a second trip with his buddies from college. His niece, Carly and wife, Margie continued the tradition. After limiting out in early summer, Margie scheduled another trip this past Friday with some friends and son Jacob. It brought a tear to my eye seeing Jacob for the first time since his dad’s funeral. We hugged and he remembered all the techniques learned while walleye fishing with his dad. It took us all day but we managed to get their limit of fish as they set lines and netted all of them. We all felt Dave’s presence that day. Better to be lucky than good.
