Saturday started out cold but soon turned out to be a beautiful day. Mike and his three buddies showed up about 8:30 to try their luck at walleye fishing. Only one had previously fished for walleyes and the other three had never caught one. We got off to a slow start. The area where I had been fishing for the past several weeks seemed to have dried up. We started moving around to find another school of fish and finally found them an hour into our trip. There was a lot of ribbing going on back and forth between the four friends due to fish being lost and two of them feeling seasick . They set lines and netted the fish as if they had been fishing all their lives. As the day went on, the sky was beautiful and the weather continued to warm up. Although it was going to take the full day to fill the cooler, it didn’t seem to matter to any of us. We all knew what weather would be arriving in the next few months and we were grateful to be outside enjoying nature. They ended up filling the cooler, catching a buzz and promising to be back again next year for another fun and satisfying walleye trip. Better to be lucky than good.
