Monday was a perfect example of how hard it is to forecast wind on Lake Erie. All week long, even up to that morning, the weather forecast was calling for light and variable winds with waves 2′ or less. Jeff and his son Dave showed up at 8am for their first walleye trip. We headed out of the marina and were greeted with 4′ rollers. As we headed out to the fishing grounds, the lake continued to build. Jeff & Dave must love roller coasters because they were all smiles! My 25′ Carolina classic and I had fished these seas many times together. We could not put the planer boards out and stuck with the dipsies. Jeff and Dave did a fantastic job handling the rods and netting all their fish. They ended with their limit of 12 walleye and we were all glad when that last fish came over the side. Both said they had an awesome day and would be back in the spring. Better to be lucky than good.
