Every year Alan’s grandson Aiden visits from CA . A fishing trip on Noah’s Ark has been part of his visit for the past several years. Perch fishing was what we started with, but with the perch fishing not being consistent and Aiden getting older, we started fishing for walleye a few years back. Last year, Aiden flew in on a redeye and we fished a couple hours after he arrived. With a lot of throwbacks because they weren’t legal size to keep, Aiden soon was exhausted and was ready to call it quits. Only managed 3 keepers before heading back to the dock.
This year’s trip ended with much better results. Aiden had already been in town for a week and was well adjusted to the time change. They arrived at the dock at 7am and it was a beautiful sunny morning with a light walleye chop. When I went to let them in the gate, I couldn’t believe how the little boy I had met years ago had turned into a 6-foot handsome young man. While doing some catching up, I found out that Aiden had a passion for surfing back home in California. We headed out of the marina to the fishing grounds that Iu have been working for the past 2 months. The catching started out immediately as two rods already had fish on them before we could get four more of them out. We were allowed six rods for the three of us that day but only managed to run 5 as the walleye were once again on the feeding frenzy they have been on all year. We managed a boat limit of 18 beautiful walleye before heading back to the dock. Better to be lucky than good!
