John, his friend Chris and his son had scheduled a perch trip early in the year. I was hoping the perch fishing would improve after a couple of really disappointing years. John had fished for perch with me a few years back and we limited out on really decent fish. The perch reports were nil! I called John and told him I could switch them to walleye or return his deposit. He went for the walleye trip and boy, was it a fantastic day! My new first mate and grandson, Kaya, was passed the baton from my son and his uncle Jason who’s business has kept him too busy to fish. Kaya already has a walleye tournament 1st place under his belt and is not new to fishing. He also fishes with his dad, my son Ryan who had first-mated for me and now is doing tournament walleye fishing. Kaya was awesome on his first day! He took one side while I took the other and it was nonstop as the guys were bringing them in one right after the other. Kaya’s side was beating grandpa’s side 2 to 1. Thirty walleye were caught. The guys went home with a huge mess of filets and already committed to a fall or spring trip. Better to be lucky than good. Being lucky and blessed is awesome.
