Brian and his son Blake up from Alabama wanted to experience the fantastic walleye bite they heard that was happening on Lake Erie. Scheduled to go out Friday morning we woke up to a strong north wind and 3 to 5′ waves. Rather than cancel I suggested that we waited a few hours because the weather forecast said the lake was going to calm down. We ventured out at noon and the waves had subsided to a nice walleye chop of 2 ~3 ft. First mate and Grandson Kaya asked what he should run on the port side. I said that’s your side Kaya and you can run whatever you want. Just like a Yonkers, Kaya targeted big fish. One of the fish he hooked was a monster that was lost at the back of the boat. In no time at all Brian and Blake had their limit of 12 walleye. When we had 18 in the live well they both decided they had enough of Lake Erie chop for their first experience. When we returned home to clean the fish we found out that Ryan Yonkers and Cole Carlson managed to hold on to first place on the first day of a two-day Cabela tournament and also took biggest fish. We wish them good luck on their second day of the tournament. Better to be lucky than good.
