Allison planned a day of fishing for her dad and siblings. She was counting on having enough walleye for dinner that night. Well, we started out at the same place I’ve been fishing for the past couple of weeks and nothing had changed except that the fish were a little larger. First mate, grandson Kaya, and I were constantly removing fish from the net as the crew pulled in doubles and triples non-stop. We were allowed to use 14 rods but started with 8 and couldn’t keep them in the water all at the same time. Often we only had two rods in the boat. The fish were so aggressive many times they hit while the rod was in your hand getting ready to be hooked up to the planer board. The fish would hit the dipsy before you had a chance to let it out all the way. Fishing is predicted to only get better and better over the next several years. But it’s hard to imagine it’s getting better than it is now. We caught their limit of 30 walleye and headed in before the sun started to bake us. I called Allison the next day to make sure that the fish cleaning went well and she said it went great and they had fish for dinner that night. Better to be lucky than good.
