Steve, his daughter Alex, his father and best friend Dave wanted to catch steelhead. We set out lines right of the harbor and trolled the shoreline and out front of the harbor. This is the time of the year that steelhead/rainbiw trout usually are staging to run up the rivers as the fall rains start. After catching just 3 walleyes and no steelies we decided to go off shore and try for more walleye. Steve’s buddy had trouble from the moment we started trolling either from the rollers or the beverages from the night before. He hung in there as we started to fill the cooler with walleye but just couldn’t take it anymore. We still managed 19 of their 24 walleye before heading in early. Steve dropped one lucky walleye back in the lake when putting the walleye from the live well into the cooler. Still all had a great day.
The next day Steve’s buddy didn’t come and his new buddy also turned green and ended up having to go in just 3 hours into the trip. We still ended with a nice box of fish that day also. All were happy with the fishing and vowed to return in the spring for another trip. Better to be lucky than good.
