Dave, his friend Dave and his daughter Mandy showed up at the boat on Sunday morning anxious to get out and catch some walleye. It was the second day of a beautiful weekend. With the hundreds of boats out on the lake fishing, it seemed more like June than the end of October. With 8,000 people signed up for the fall brawl, many anglers will be braving the cold weather well into November. We set up in the same area Noah’s Ark had caught them on Saturday and the walleye were still there. It was one of those days where the bite was tough and many were struggling to put that first walleye in the boat. Others were lucky enough to find an active pod of fish. Mandy and the two Dave’s started to set the line and it wasn’t long before we caught our first fish. We had the area pretty much to ourselves until the boats that had gone out farther started to move back in. Before we knew it, we were surrounded by boats which slowed our bite down a bit. It took us most of the day to get a nice box of fish but none of us cared because of the beautiful day we were enjoying. Mandy was just a delight. She’s an avid hunter and works on a farm and really enjoyed her day on Lake Erie walleye fishing. Dave and Dave also thanked me for a great day and said they would be back again. Better to be lucky than good.
