My dear friends have been coming up from Akron to fish for walleye on Noah’s Ark and Lake Erie for over 15 years. Pastor Vince and Deacon Michael are regulars and bring different members of their church on different trips. They were here early in the year and had gone home with a boat limit of 30 walleye. This time they brought Todd and there were just the 3 of them. We headed out and as we were half way to where I have been fishing, I noticed a lot of red marks on the fish finder. I slowed down and noticed they were all walleye hooks, so we put out the equipment and started to troll. As the waves picked up and with the auto pilot not working, we were all over the place trying to keep the boat on course. Pastor Vince, who has a boat, was a huge help steering while I kept the back of the boat fishing. We had lots of tangles to take care of from the boat going off course. It was Todd’s first time fishing on Lake Erie and was really having a ball with the new experience. As usual, these faithful men were constantly praising God and thanking Jesus everytime a walleye came over the side. Lots of ribbing and competition always keeps us laughing. One time, we had a huge walleye on at the back of the boat. As Todd got ready to net what appeared to be a 10 lb. plus walleye, the fish spit the hook and looked like he was smiling as he swam away to live another day. Vince was so shocked he lost the fish and I had to say, ” Did you hear what that fish said when he got loose? He said, God made me too, praise the Lord!” We all had a good laugh as we continued to fill the cooler. We ended the day with another boat limit of 24 with no first mate or working auto pilot. Better to be lucky than good. 🤣🤣
