I do get lots of calls for charters with children. Being a grandfather of 11 and the 12th on the way, I have a lot of experience with children and their attention span. I realize all of them are different but you should be aware of what your child’s attention span is before you invest in a day of fishing on Lake Erie. I took my grandson, Ryder, out when he was 6 and it was just the two of us. I set the anchor and the perch started to hit right away which is not always the case. We caught 15 nice perch in the first 20 minutes and Ryder looked up at me and said “Ok Momo, I’m ready.” I said, “What are you ready for little buddy? ” He replied, “I’m ready for McDonalds and the swimming pool.”
Now, it’s time to decide do you make them stay out and end up hating it or do you take them in. There are times when he will want to stay out, like the day he caught his 10 lb. walleye, which now hangs on his bedroom wall.
People get upset when I tell them I have a no younger than 8 year old limit. Your paying for a day on the lake or limit whichever comes first and when that little guy or gal has had enough you have to decide what to do. There are NO discounts for short trips. There are also many things on a boat that a child can get into when they start loosing patience, such as hooks, tools and sharp objects. This is an FYI only. Think about this before you call. I require 1 adult per person. I take 4 max so that is 2 adults and 2 kids between the ages of 8 and 12. I hope you understand but safety is first with me, a great time is second and getting your fish is 3rd!
